I wanted a feeling of a calm cold fall morning. Indeed, if you take time to look at the picture, you’ll see that all is not always as nice as it appears.

Actually, there are 220 000 homeless people in France…

My first inspiration came during Siggraph 2007, from completely hidden homeless people living just across the street, in front of San Diego Convention Center. Did you notice them?

No photo used, just about 16 XSI passes and Fusion.

Hope you enjoy it.

Golden Arrow roadster

Those pictures were made for Immersion Graphique.

The article covering the full story is in the last issue of this nice magazine.

This car is inspired by 1929 Sir H. Segrave’s Golden Arrow. I found the shape around the Napier motor incredible!

I wanted to make a roadster version of this fabulous car.

I used 3DMax and Mental Ray. Materials are heavily modified Car-Paint.

Stone and Skin

ere is a little bit of softness and warmness in this hard 3D world.

Skin is made with Mental Ray Fast SSS Skin.

For drops of water, it's a special material on a clone of body object. It just add drops and 'wet' material beneath.

Indeed, it's very hard to have good wet skin. Each person I asked had different experience and ideas of it. So it's difficult to find a 'good' and acceptable drop look.

tell me what you think about the skin and the drops, it will be greatly appreciate... Thanks !

Lazkano tribute

This image is freely inspired from work of Lazkano. Lazkano is a Spanish Basque painter, who made painting of town and imaginary cities.

Two of his paintings were exposed at Guggenheim museum. The one with a balcony far over a city really impressed me. It was really big, and you just were in pictures.

So I’ve play to re-create an image using the same idea.

As ever when doing an ‘inspired-by’ work, I didn’t had any look at the original work during all process. By doing this, I avoid copying and get my own reflection on the subject. And also, the result is quite different from inspiration.

Now, some technical talk.

I’ve used 3DSMax to do this picture. I’ve also used a bunch of other software or plug-in:
Ivy Generator, for the plants,
MapeZone 2.5, for making maps,
NodeJoe, for node-based texturing and not using the awful 3DSMax Material Editor!
Greeble, perfect for modeling such monotonic and uniform city.
Mental Ray, for rendering.

Compositing was made with Fusion. A tone mapped version, used in compositing, was done with HDRShop.

It’s very difficult to find Internet site with good images of Lazkano’s works, so I invite you to try to see his paintings during his next exhibitions…

Wait Here

Dealing with Administration is probably the biggest nightmare of our time. So, I've started a serie of pictures of my own vision about it.
This one shows a place I spent so long time while trying to get this one or that other paper (like "sheet #2042C, in office #458, Floor 11, please phone 3 weeks before com'in, etc.., etc..."), I said : Corridor of administration !
Corridors always appears like infinity. And, like every time there is possibility to go far, administration makes you stop and wait. Without any explanation, neither any visible reason to wait.
I wanted this picture to leave an unfriendly feeling, with strong opposition between infinity and the abrupt order to stop and wait ("patientez ici" = wait here).
Please, tell me if you feel unconfortable with it.
I also want to give a 'little bit too much' clean aspect. It seems the floor is so often cleaned that it's impossible to tell its age or if the linoleum was shinny at beginning.
Technical corner :
All is made with 3DSMax and rendered with Mental Ray, without any radiosity, neither GI or FG !! All lighting by hand (much more fun and control over light !).
Maps are made with allegorithmic MapZone Free and spiralgraphics WoodWorkshop. They are both free and really powerful !
Materials are mostly DGS.
All comments are welcome ! Thanks a lot.
